The GWM Tank series is Great Wall Motors' dedicated rugged-SUV line, and it's a genuine departure from the soft crossover crowd — these are body-on-frame, seriously off-road-capable machines.

The Tank 300 is the compact hero: retro-boxy styling, a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol (with a hybrid HEV option in some markets), part-time four-wheel drive, front and rear differential locks, a low-range transfer case and crawl/off-road modes that make it a proper trail weapon, not just a lifestyle poser. The larger Tank 500 steps up to a three-row luxury off-roader with a more powerful turbocharged powertrain (and HEV option), a plush, tech-loaded cabin and the same hardcore underpinnings.

Both blend real capability with a modern, screen-heavy interior — a rare combo at their price. For Pakistan they're aimed at buyers who want genuine 4x4 ability and presence without paying Land Cruiser / Prado money. The talking points: real off-road performance and durability, fuel economy from the turbo petrols, spare-parts availability, and how they hold up against the Jetour T2 and the established Japanese 4x4s. Front AND rear diff locks with low range from the factory at this price is the headline. Most 'off-roaders' this cheap are soft-roaders — the Tank is the real thing.

The Tank 300's retro styling is gorgeous in person. It's the closest thing to a Bronco/G-Wagen look without the insane price tag.

For serious off-roading the question is always long-term durability and parts. Toyota earned its reputation over decades — GWM has to prove it can take abuse and stay fixable here.

Tank 500 as a Prado alternative genuinely makes sense on paper. Three rows, luxury cabin, real 4x4 hardware for a lot less. After-sales network is the make-or-break.

Fuel economy on the 2.0T petrol worries me for something this heavy. The HEV version, if it comes, would be the smarter daily buy.

Compared to the Jetour T2, the Tank feels like the more hardcore, go-anywhere option. The T2 is more about the lifestyle look. Different buyers really.
